ABOUT ME

DONNA HAMMOND

I’m Donna Hammond and in some way, shape or form I have always been surrounded by dogs. Growing up we had dogs, then when I left home, I had my own dogs. When I changed career direction 17 years ago, I started walking puppies and dogs for a living. From there, I found myself getting more into the training side to fill a need as the owners didn’t always have the time that is required, or the dogs hadn’t been trained, some had not been socialised around other dogs and some had other problems that needed attention.

The one thing that has been obvious to me from the start is that there is not a one size fits all when it comes to training. Like humans, dogs learn at different speeds and require different ways of learning. Training often varies from breed to breed and the background and history for dogs that are rescued is key to how they are trained. I have experience working with dogs that have been rescued from within the UK and abroad. I believe additional skills are required to rehabilitate and look after these dogs. Equally as important in the training of any dog is the owner and our working together.

With the above in mind, I decided that I needed to better equip and educate myself to be able to help dogs and their owners. I am fortunate enough to have worked with and been trained by two of the best trainers in the country. With dogs and their owners there is always something new to learn. Dogs are curious animals and to get the best out of them, we need to be understanding and motivated and this is how I approach my work with the dogs, their training and their rehabilitation.

My packages are adapted to suit the needs and requirements of the puppy/dog and their owner/s. I offer puppy classes, one to one lessons, a walk and train package where I will train and socialise the puppy/dog for those owners who are time limited. I train in "real life" situations such as local parks or on a country walk.

TESTIMONIALS

What My Dogs and Owners Say About Me

Home: Testimonials

“We brought home our cockapoo puppy and as first time puppy parents found ourselves worried about how we’d teach him all the things he needed to know. Donna was fantastic from the first moment we contacted her. She came and met our pup, Bryn and told us what to expect. In our puppy lessons she trained us as much as she trained Bryn - talking us through what to expect, how to stay calm in different situations and taught us how to keep teaching Bryn. Ultimately gave us the confidence to be good owners. Bryn is now a confident happy puppy who loves playing and going for his walks. There is no way Bryn would be such a happy dog without having worked with Donna.”

PRICE LIST AND PACKAGES

£16

Basic Walking Package

1 hour weekday walk £16

Pay up front for 10 walks £160 ( 11th walk free - Saving £16.00)

Because I know what I would want for my dogs I wanted to offer a small, more personalised service to my customers and their dogs, I only walk 3 to 4 dogs at a time, 5 maximum if I am certain the dogs are socialised and will walk well together.

I want to make the walks fun so I have a variety of locations that I visit so the dogs have different smells and terrains to enjoy and they get to meet new friends along the way. On the odd occasion, and with owner’s permission, I head off to the beach for a morning or afternoon for a doggy paddle in the sea.

I treat all the dogs in my care as if they are my own, I want your dog to be happy, safe and to have as much fun as possible when they are with me.

Because of the increase in dog theft, I do not advertise on my car, and I do not wear branded clothing. I will never put photos of your dog or post our location on social media I will, however, send you the owner, pictures, or videos of your dog on our walks so you get to see them having a great time.

Dogs are pack animals and usually love the stimulation of walking as a group.

I collect your furries from your home in my own cars, which is fully insured for the purposes, with specialist doggy seatbelts and they will receive a minimum of an hour's walk and then I return them happy and tired always ensuring their water bowls are topped up and they are towelled off if muddy.  We provide mess bags, treats and water whilst walking and lots of fluffy towels for dealing with muddy paws and tummies!!

MUDDYTAILS

Muddytails (Donna Hammond) agree to adhere to any reasonable specific instructions given by the owner relating to the care of their pets. I will take the utmost care of your pets, ensuring their safety and welfare at all times, and will do everything in my power to protect them from any danger and to treat them with love, respect and kindness as if they were my own. My training and walking methods never require force to be used and if I become aware of the mistreatment of any animal I will report it to the relevant authorities.
Prior to any agreed activities, I will conduct an initial visit to meet you and your dog. I will take a full history of your dog in terms of temperament, health, habits and any specific requirements you have and complete the registration form with you.  I can then make sure I am offering you the correct safe package whether that’s simply some lovely walks or more detailed training.
The following Terms and Conditions will be deemed accepted and agreed upon by the owner on the signing of Muddytails’ registration form.

WALKING AND TRAINING

Dogs must be sociable if they are to join me on group walks (there are different package options if your dog needs to walk 1-2-1 and this can be discussed with you on my initial visit). I reserve the right to cancel the contract at any time and with immediate effect if the dog is not responding well or giving cause for concern.  Any initial payments will be refunded.
All dogs will be walked on a lead unless the owner has agreed and signed the relevant disclaimer on the registration form to allow off-lead activities.  If off lead walking is agreed I will walk your dog on a lead until we are satisfied that safe recall is established.
Dogs are walked in small controlled social groups up to a maximum of 5.
Dogs must have a suitable collar or harness and wear ID tags with the owner’s details.  Please advise if any special training aids are used eg, Haltis and the owner must initially demonstrate how their particular harness etc is fitted on the dog.  These must be in good working order and well-fitting.
Unfortunately, I cannot walk dogs who are not neutered or spayed over 12 months old (except in the case of puppy training).
I cannot walk, train or visit any dog deemed dangerous or on the UK banned breed list.
If I consider the weather conditions too dangerous for myself or your pets (eg extremes of temperature or thunderstorms) I will cancel or cut short their walk/training. However, I can visit your pet at home instead to ensure they can visit their garden for a toilet break and have some company.
